Special Significance of the Species
Macoun’s meadowfoam is a Canadian endemic restricted to the southern part of Vancouver Island and several adjacent islands. It is the only native representative of the genus Limnanthes in Canada. Other species of Limnanthes have horticultural and agricultural uses, this, the most northerly species may be useful in providing genetic material in breeding programs (Knapp & Crane, 1999).
