Biographical Summary of Report Writer

Jon McCracken is presently the Ontario Program Manager for Bird Studies Canada (BSC) – a non-profit institution dedicated to the research, monitoring, and conservation of Canada’s birds. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Science in zoology in 1977. As a contract biologist and environmental consultant for government and non-government agencies, he subsequently worked on a large variety of projects, with a particular focus on site and regional assessments of breeding birds. Since joining BSC in 1989, he has been heavily involved in developing, implementing and overseeing a variety of volunteer-based, bird monitoring programs, including the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network, the Marsh Monitoring Program, and the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas. He has also been extensively involved in a large variety of species at risk assessments and species recovery programs in Ontario, and is presently the co-chair for the Prothonotary Warbler recovery team.
