Recovery Strategies and Management Plans

Parks Canada is responsible for leading the development of recovery strategies and management plans for 76 of the species currently listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). As of November 2014, of these 76:

• Seventy-three species have final recovery documents posted,
• Two species have proposed recovery documents posted, and
• One species has no recovery document posted at this time.

Anticipated delivery date of the one outstanding proposed recovery document is:

• Northern Goshawk laingi subspecies, spring 2015

Action Plans

Approximately 50 percent of the SARA-listed species occur on Parks Canada lands and waters, and the Agency has action planning responsibilities for those species on those lands and waters. The Agency is taking a site-based ecosystem approach to action planning in order to maximize planning efficiency and conservation outcomes. Parks Canada will take a prioritized approach, focusing first on sites with regular occurrences of five or more species at risk. The Agency will post action plans for seven Parks Canada-managed areas by March 31, 2016.
