Government of Canada Invests over $283,000 in Community Infrastructure of Indigenous Communities in the Manitoulin Island Region

November 8, 2016 – Birch Island, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $283,784 to help promote healthy living and recreation in three Indigenous communities in the Manitoulin and surrounding area. The funding will enable Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve and Whitefish River First Nation to expand and upgrade recreational facilities in their communities for the benefit of area residents.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made the announcement today while on a tour of Manitoulin Island.

The investments are provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). This support across Canada will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities, and celebrate Canada's rich heritage and history.
