The Government of Canada Strengthens Communities while Helping to Create Jobs and Boost Economic Activity

Backgrounder

The following investments, provided by FedNor through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities, and celebrate Canada's rich heritage and history.

Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation
$100,000

With an investment of $100,000, the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation will expand the Sagamok Fitness Centre. The facility supports and promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, and is available to members of the community free of charge. In addition to offering a variety of educational, social, active living, and leisure services and programs for youth, adults and community Elders, the Sagamok Fitness Centre also hosts several community events and activities throughout the year.

Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve
$95,784

The Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve will receive $95,784 to upgrade children's playground equipment at three separate sites, in addition to completing a youth skate park at a fourth venue. The Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve is a large Indigenous community with a significant youth population. This investment will help promote healthy lifestyles and will provide safe recreation opportunities for children.

Whitefish River First Nation
$88,000

An investment of $88,000 will enable Whitefish River First Nation to rehabilitate the community's all-season recreational facility for both ice and ball hockey. Specifically, the First Nation will refurbish the concrete slab surface and install new rink boards, and add insulation and electric heat to the adjoining change room. This restoration will help improve access to recreational opportunities for community members of all ages.
