The Government of Canada Supports Projects that Help Create Jobs, Boost Economic Activity and Celebrate Canada's Rich Heritage

Backgrounder

The following investments, provided by FedNor through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities, and celebrate Canada's rich heritage and history.

Bearskin Lake First Nation
$100,000

The Bearskin Lake First Nation Community Centre will be renovated thanks to an investment of $100,000. The project will include work on the electrical, mechanical and heating systems, a concrete floor, drywalling, insulation, painting and other finishings. The improvements will provide the community with a space for gatherings and meetings, as well as recreation, sporting and social activities.

Longbow Lake Improved Access Corporation
$100,000

An investment of $100,000 will enable the Longbow Lake Improved Access Corporation to rehabilitate the local boat lift to provide access between Lake of the Woods and Longbow Lake. Improvements will include a variety of mechanical upgrades such as the installation of a winch system, floating docks and more. The lift is an important piece of infrastructure that provides access to Kenora via Lake of the Woods for residents and visitors alike.

Naotkamegwanning First Nation
$71,000

An investment of $71,000 will enable Naotkamegwanning First Nation to undertake improvements to the ChiKeyWis Arena and Cultural Centre. The project will include the addition of a commercial kitchen and dining room, with related renovations covering plumbing, electrical, fire suppression and refrigeration. The kitchen facility would open doors to new partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through cultural activities and events.

Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls
$50,000

The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls will receive $50,000 to enhance the nature trails in the community through the use of wayfinding, interpretive signs, a trail guidebook and base camps. These improvements to local infrastructure will support the community's strategic efforts to increase tourism.

Township of Ignace
$36,800

The Township of Ignace will undertake improvements to the Ignace Recreation Hub thanks to an investment of $36,800. The project will include the addition of a skate park to the existing arena, as well as improvements to the bowling alley, fitness centre and tennis courts. This investment will help increase participation in physical fitness activities for local residents.

Ochiichagwe'Babigo'Ining Ojibway Nation
$20,000

An investment of $20,000 will enable Ochiichagwe'Babigo'Ining Ojibway Nation to rehabilitate an outdoor skating rink and replace local docks used by the community as a swim platform.  The skating rink will be upgraded by adding exterior lights, and repairing the warm-up shack and rink boards. The docks will be replaced. Improvements to these recreational facilities will help engage youth in after-school and summer programs, and encourage local residents to participate in healthy activities.
