Government of Canada Invests $120,000 to Support Infrastructure Upgrades, Tourism and Business Growth in Red Lake

April 20, 2017 – Red Lake, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $120,000 to enable the Municipality of Red Lake to improve its recreational infrastructure and assist civic leaders with strategic planning and decision making. Of the total, a FedNor investment of $100,000 will be used to modernize community playground equipment and install a concrete pad to accommodate a new splash park. The remaining $20,000 will enable the municipality to determine the feasibility of constructing a new multi-use facility, as well as identify potential tourism and business opportunities to diversify the regional economy.

The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor. These strategic investments will support business development and growth, and infrastructure enhancements that deliver community and cultural benefits for local residents.

  • Funding announced for the playground is provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), which is part of the Government of Canada’s coordinated approach to mark the anniversary of Confederation and designed to leave a lasting legacy in communities across the country.

  • FedNor is delivering CIP 150 in Northern Ontario with an allocation of $10.4 million over two years, ending March 31, 2018.

  • Funding announced for the feasibility study is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
