Government of Canada Investment Helps Revitalize Shoal Lake #40 First Nation’s Community Centre and Gymnasium

May 18, 2017 – Shoal Lake, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $52,000 to help Shoal Lake #40 First Nation rehabilitate and modernize its community centre. Home to the only gymnasium in the community, the facility is a vital hub for local residents, also serving as a venue for meetings, cultural events and functions.

Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced this Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding. Specifically, the FedNor investment will assist in refurbishing the roof, installing a hardwood surface over the existing concrete floor, painting new play surface markings, and retrofitting interior doors. The improvements will help transform the facility into a safe meeting place aimed at healing and well-being.
