Government of Canada Invests to Help Magnetawan First Nation Plan for Future Growth

May 25, 2017 – Britt, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $45,500 to help Magnetawan First Nation capitalize on opportunities associated with the planned four-laning of Highway 69 through its community. A comprehensive capital planning study will enable the First Nation to identify economic development opportunities, as well as anticipate future infrastructure and social needs.   

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced this Northern Ontario Development Program funding. The investment will assist with economic development-related activities such information gathering, community consultation, infrastructure planning and engineering.

  • The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

  • Magnetawan First Nation’s previous capital plan was completed 20 years ago and most of its recommendations were implemented.
