Government of Canada Helps Improve Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing Pow-wow Grounds

The Government of Canada is investing $50,000 to help the Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing First Nation renovate its pow-wow grounds. Originally built in 1990, the community’s pow-wow grounds have been the scene of countless celebrations, ceremonies and special events, including its annual pow-wow which will welcome its 27th edition this summer.

Don Rusnak, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay—Rainy River, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced this Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) investment. Specifically, the FedNor funding will enable the community to enlarge the grounds’ arbor area, expand and reinforce the stands, install a roof and overhang over the seating area, and renovate the elders’ section. The enhancements will help accommodate more performers, citizens and visitors to the community celebrations, and better protect participants from the elements.
