July 24, 2017 – Thunder Bay, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

Families in Thunder Bay will benefit from improved recreation facilities and a young graduate will gain valuable work experience thanks to an investment of $275,000 from the Government of Canada.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, and member of Parliament for Thunder Bay—Superior North, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.

The investment will support four projects, including $245,000 to upgrade a local baseball field, an historically significant park and popular nature trails, as well as $30,000 for a youth internship.

The investment in local infrastructure is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, a $300-million funding that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150 birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $10.4 million is being invested across Northern Ontario.

The internship is provided through FedNor’s Youth Internship Initiative, which has helped more than 1525 young graduates obtain crucial work experience to kick-start their career, and provided countless local organizations access to a qualified and talented workforce.
