Northern Ontario farmers to benefit from research, innovation and access to new markets

$317,160 from the Government of Canada will help create jobs, opportunities and growth in Northern Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food sectors

Northern Ontario farmers and agri-food producers looking to innovate and expand or increase sales and exports will find the support they need thanks to a $317,160 investment from the Government of Canada.
The FedNor funding was announced today by Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.
As part of the announcement, FedNor is investing $241,060 to enable the University of Guelph, through its research facilities in New Liskeard, to help Northern Ontario famers increase beef production. The remaining $76,100 will support two projects led by the Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA) in the Temiskaming Shores region. Specifically, NOFIA will receive $53,600 to assist Northern Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food producers to showcase their products and services in domestic and international markets. The organization will also receive $22,500 to explore rail transportation as a viable option to accelerate the growth of the region’s agriculture and agri-food industries.
