Three young graduates to benefit from meaningful on-the-job experience

$94,500 from the Government of Canada helps three local organizations grow thanks to local talents

Three organizations in Greater Sudbury will advance priority projects as a result of a $94,500 investment from the Government of Canada. The funding will enable the hiring of three young graduates with expertise in various fields such as science, communications, social media and marketing.

The funding was announced today by Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.

As part of this announcement, Science North will receive $31,500 in FedNor funding to hire a youth intern in support of their efforts to have the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declare the Sudbury basin a global geopark. UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas representing sites and landscapes of international geological significance.  At present, there are 127 such designated areas in 35 countries around the world.

The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce will also receive $31,500 to hire a communication and digital content intern to develop communication tools and implement a social media strategy. In addition, the new hire will work to create strategic alliances and partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses.

The remaining $31,500 will be used by Cinéfest: The Sudbury Film Festival Inc. to hire a youth intern to help expand programming, attract new audiences and promote Northern Ontario film production. While on the job, the successful candidate will analyze consumer data to identify audience and economic trends, and develop a strategy to help maximize the social and economic potential of Cinéfest Sudbury
