Minister Dion wraps up successful trip to Peru and announces several projects

The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has concluded a successful trip to Peru.
Minister Dion participated in the foreign ministers’ portion of the APEC summit and delivered remarks on food security, climate change and water stress—issues that represent some of the most critical challenges of the 21st century.
On the margins of the APEC summit, Minister Dion met with counterparts from Brunei, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines and the United States, as well as with ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh.
He also met with representatives of Amnesty International and Transparency International to discuss human rights, justice, governance and gender equality and participated in a round table with leading think tanks on climate change.
In addition, Minister Dion announced projects to support marginalized youth and to modernize Peru’s public service. He also announced that the Convention on Social Security between Canada and Peru had been approved and would enter into force on March 1, 2017.
Finally, as part of this year’s APEC summit focus on food security, Minister Dion announced a project aimed at supporting enforcement of Vietnam’s food safety regulations and improving economic opportunities for farmers and women.
