Ministers from Global Affairs Canada to attend Conference of Montreal

Canada places great value in fostering lasting and meaningful relationships with countries in the Americas, and believes that it is important to focus on the various economic, political and socio-cultural cooperations between Canada and the region.

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade and the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today announced that they will participate in the Conference of Montreal, in Montréal, Quebec, from June 12 to 15, 2017.

At the conference, the ministers will demonstrate Canada’s international leadership on global challenges. Minister Freeland will highlight Canada’s foreign policy, announced last week and Canada’s role as a key multilateral player. Minister Bibeau will promote Canada’s new feminist international assistance policy, focused on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people, including women and girls. Minister Champagne will outline Canada’s progressive trade agenda and priorities for strengthening commercial and people-to-people ties with Canada’s trading partners.

The ministers will meet with political leaders, and representatives of the private sector, international organizations and civil society.
