The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement on the work of the Canada-United States Council for Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders.
“I welcome the progress of the Canada-United States Council for Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders, announced earlier today. The mandate and agenda of the Council represent important areas of focus to help remove barriers to women’s economic participation. Supporting women in leadership positions is essential to the success of our businesses, our middle class, and our communities. We must ensure our economy is a place where women can work and thrive, and that is precisely the focus of the Council.
“The work of the Council stems from a commitment made jointly by Prime Minister Trudeau and President Trump to advance equal opportunities for women in the workforce and to encourage women to start and grow their businesses. The participation of women is vital to achieving the potential of the Canadian and U.S. economies.
“I look forward to the recommendations that will be developed in the coming months by the Council.”
