Minister of Foreign Affairs speaks with provincial and territorial trade counterparts in advance of NAFTA talks

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke today with her provincial and territorial counterparts responsible for trade to discuss the upcoming renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

During the conference call, the Minister highlighted that the renegotiation offers an opportunity to modernize and strengthen this important trilateral free trade agreement, in support of growth for the middle class and those working hard to join it. The Minister thanked the provinces and territories, and added that they have an integral role to play, and encouraged them to continue to engage with their North American counterparts. She noted that Canada’s negotiating team has and will continue to work closely with provincial and territorial governments.

Minister Freeland emphasized that Canada’s objective is a modernized NAFTA that reflects the best interests of all Canadians.
