Call for preliminary proposals on increasing access and reinforcing rights to sexual and reproductive health

Backgrounder

This call for preliminary proposals, entitled Partnerships for Her Voice, Her Choice, is part of the $650-million funding over three years announced by Minister Bibeau in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The initiative aims to advance gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, and is in line with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy. The total amount of funding available is $40 million, and projects will be implemented between fiscal years 2018/19 and 2023/24.

This SRHR initiative will focus on:

  • comprehensive sexual education;
  • reproductive health services and investments in family planning and contraceptives;
  • the prevention of and response to sexual and gender-based violence, including child, early and forced marriage, and female genital mutilation and cutting; and
  • initiatives that support the right to choose safe and legal abortion, as well as access to post-abortion care, including in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

Organizations are encouraged to include domestic public engagement activities in their proposals to increase the Canadian public’s understanding of SRHR.
