Statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs on International Women’s Day

Statement

March 8, 2018 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:

“As a proud feminist, I am honoured to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs in a government with an unabashedly feminist foreign policy that integrates gender equality into our diplomacy, trade, security and development efforts.

“Last year, we put forward two ambitious new initiatives: Canada’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, and The Elsie Initiative on Women in Peace Operations, aimed at increasing the role that women play in peacebuilding, peacekeeping and humanitarian work.

“Today, we salute the exceptional contribution women make in tackling global challenges, including women’s and girls’ issues. Canada will continue to advance gender equality around the world.”
