Minister Bibeau to visit Ukraine

News release

July 18, 2018 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

Canada is among the strongest international supporters of Ukraine and its democratic and economic reform processes. Canada’s continued assistance is helping Ukraine advance its reform agenda, promote peace and stability within the country and meet the critical needs of people affected by the conflict in the eastern part of the country.

It is in this context that the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, will visit Ukraine from July 18 to 23, 2018. It will be her first visit to that country.

During her visit, Minister Bibeau will meet with Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister, as well as several other Ukrainian ministers, to discuss the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda, including its strategy for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.

Minister Bibeau will also visit development projects supported by Canada and meet with government officials, women’s organizations and other key stakeholders involved in various kinds of reform, including the advancement of gender equality and women’s rights and the financial inclusion of the most vulnerable and marginalized.

“Canada and Ukraine have close and long-standing ties. Ongoing development and humanitarian efforts have been helping establish a more promising future for the country, but much remains to be done. I look forward to learning about the challenges and opportunities on the ground.”

- Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development
