Minister Carr to meet with food growers and producers in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to promote benefits of trade diversification

News release

November 1st, 2018 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

Canada’s trade diversification strategy is all about connecting innovative, ambitious and hard-working Canadians to more global markets in which they can compete and succeed. With trade agreements giving Canadian businesses, farmers and workers access to nearly two thirds of the global economy, Canada is one of the world’s most trade-connected countries. That translates into economic growth and more well-paid jobs for middle-class Canadians.

On November 2, 2018, the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, will participate in a public event, the Taste of Trade, at Old Market Square in downtown Winnipeg, where he will meet with agricultural and food entrepreneurs and industry leaders to highlight the growing global opportunities available to Canadian businesses through Canada’s ambitious trade diversification strategy.

Minister Carr will highlight the benefits for food producers and exporters provided by the new trade agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico (USMCA), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Quotes

“Manitoba businesses and workers are mainstays of Canada’s highly competitive export-oriented economy, producing exports that range from agricultural products, aircraft and steel to pharmaceuticals, forest products and transportation vehicles. Canada’s trade agreements help maintain stable and secure markets for these exports and open doors to new ones for Manitobans and Canadians across the country.”

- Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification
