The Government of Canada is committed to significantly bolstering export opportunities for Canadian businesses and diversifying Canada’s overseas trade. When companies across the country are able to compete and succeed internationally, it leads to more high-quality jobs for middle-class Canadians.

Today, the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, is in Winnipeg to highlight the benefits of Canada’s Trade Diversification Strategy for local businesses, including the information and communications technology (ICT) and life science sectors.

At the Red River College Applied Computer Education Project Space, an interactive venue—created in partnership with the North Forge Technology Exchange—the Minister outlines how investments made in the trade diversification agenda will help cutting-edge technology come to life and go global. He will also meet with established companies from Winnipeg’s thriving ICT and life science sectors, as well ICT start-ups and students.

Announced as part of the Fall Economic Statement, Canada’s Trade Diversification Strategy proposes new measures to help businesses go global, including:

  • providing resources to small and medium-sized enterprises to help them explore new export opportunities
  • enhancing trade services for Canadian exporters
  • helping Canadian innovators add value, succeed and grow
