Canada announces assistance for those affected by conflict in Syria

Backgrounder

Canada’s announcement of $50.35 million in funding will help experienced humanitarian partners provide life-saving assistance to millions of people in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

Syria - $27 million

World Food Programme (WFP) - $10 million in funding to WFP to help meet the nutrition and food security needs of crisis-affected people in Syria.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - $5 million in funding to UNHCR to provide comprehensive protection and shelter interventions to crisis-affected people in Syria.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) - $4 million in funding to UNFPA to provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and services in response to sexual and gender-based violence in Syria.

Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) - $5 million in funding to OCHA to support the Syria and Turkey Humanitarian Funds: these funds provide flexible, responsive mechanisms to deliver immediate life-saving assistance throughout Syria, as needs emerge.

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) - $3 million in funding to the ICRC to provide improved health, protection, livelihoods and shelter assistance to crisis-affected people in Syria.

Lebanon - $12 million

UNHCR - $6 million in funding to UNHCR to provide comprehensive protection and shelter interventions to crisis-affected people in Lebanon.

WFP - $4 million in funding to WFP to help meet the nutrition and food security needs of crisis-affected people in Lebanon.

UNICEF - $2 million in funding to UNICEF to provide health and water, sanitation and hygiene services to crisis-affected people in Lebanon.

Jordan - $7.5 million

UNHCR - $3 million in funding to UNHCR to provide comprehensive protection and shelter interventions to crisis-affected people in Jordan.

WFP - $2.5 million in funding to WFP to help meet the nutrition and food security needs of crisis-affected people in Jordan.

UNFPA - $1 million in funding to UNFPA to provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and services in response to sexual and gender-based violence to refugees and host communities in Jordan.

UNICEF - $1 million in funding to UNICEF to provide health and water, sanitation and hygiene services to crisis-affected people in Jordan.

Jordan and Lebanon - $65,000

Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) - $65,000 in funding to NRC for an initiative to examine good practices, challenges and approaches that maximize the benefits of multi-year funding in Jordan and Lebanon.

Iraq - $3.785 million

WFP - $2.35 million in funding to WFP to help meet the nutrition and food security needs of crisis-affected people in Iraq.

UNHCR - $1.435 million in funding to UNHCR to provide comprehensive protection and shelter interventions to crisis-affected people in Iraq.
