Backgrounder - Memorandum of understanding on cooperation regarding negotiations on reparations by Iran

Backgrounder

Members of the International Coordination and Response Group for the victims of Flight PS752 (Afghanistan, Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, the United Kingdom) have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation regarding negotiations on reparations by Iran.

This memorandum reflects the group’s commitment to working together and formalizes how it will cooperate prior to and during negotiations with Iran.

The group has appointed Ukraine as the negotiating spokesperson. An advisory committee has also been established, consisting of representatives from each group member that will be present during the negotiations and will support the work of the spokesperson.

These state-to-state negotiations on reparations by the Iranian regime are an important and necessary step toward meeting the group’s objective of achieving accountability and helping families seek closure as they continue to grieve.

These negotiations are essential to holding the Iranian regime accountable for the downing of Flight PS752 and to ensuring that it makes full reparations to the affected states and to the families of the victims.
