Canada continues to be a close friend of Ukraine and supports its goal of delivering security, prosperity and freedom for all its citizens.

Today, the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, concluded a virtual visit to Ukraine in which she met with representatives of Ukraine’s government; Ukrainian civil society, including women’s rights organizations; and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. Together, they discussed peace and security, governance programming, gender equality and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the Minister announced $30 million over 5 years to support inclusive governance in Ukraine. This call for proposals has been launched to solicit projects that will enhance democratic, inclusive and gender-equal governance in Ukraine, thereby responding to the needs of all Ukrainians, including the most vulnerable and marginalized groups of people.

Minister Gould also announced $1.9 million in funding to improve the Ukrainian government’s capacity to support the socio-economic well-being of women military veterans.

These investments reaffirm Canada’s unwavering commitment to secure Ukraine’s future as a democratic, rules-based state and support its goal of greater Euro-Atlantic integration.
