All pesticides used in Canada must be registered under the Pest Control Products Act. Pesticides are re-evaluated to ensure that they continue to meet health and environmental requirements. Re-evaluation may result in the revocation of a product or product uses. Health Canada may also request changes to a product's label, including mitigation measures, use sites and application mehods.
Metiram is a fungicide used in agriculture on a number of food crops. Highlights of the re-evaluation decisions of the active ingredient metiram, published on June 21, 2018, are summarized below.

- From now on, these formulations must be offered in water-soluble packaging.

- Except foliar application on potatoes
Risk reduction measures

- Closed system required for mixing and loading
- Limit of 3 applications per year
- Total combined seasonal application of mancozeb and metiram cannot exceed 10 applications per year
- Updated maximum rate/ha
- Extension of restricted-entry intervals (REIs) depending on activity
- Pre-harvest interval (PHI) of 14 days
- 7-day application interval
- Maximum height of spray boom set at 60 cm from the crop or the ground.
- Addition to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Buffer zones updated
Users must follow the instructions on the updated labels.
Using a pesticide contrary to the label directions is a violation of the Pest Control Products Act.
