Minister Bennett:

This week is Mental Health Week, a time to support one another, stand up against stigma, and improve our mental health.

The theme for this year’s Mental Health Week is “My Story”, which is all about sharing our stories and experiences with mental health to help others feel that they are not alone.

Mental health impacts our overall wellbeing. Mental health literacy means we understand the difference between mental health and mental illness. Mental health literacy helps us recognize when certain emotions are normal, and when things might not be quite right.

This week, we underline the importance of recognizing and understanding mental health triggers and symptoms and how to seek out resources like the Wellness Together Canada portal and mentalhealthliteracy.org, This week as we talk about mental health with loved ones, we are actively fighting stigma and promoting connectedness.

Together, we can shape a better, healthier future for everyone in which all Canadians have the mental health literacy to recognize when they or their families and friends are struggling, and how to access the mental health supports they need.
