Construction work progressing well on the West Shore Parkway project

Langford, British Columbia, August 2, 2017— Safe and efficient highways and roads help Canadians access community services, participate in local activities and gain access to better job opportunities. The governments of Canada and British Columbia are making investments that will help create well-paying jobs and grow the middle class now while building a strong foundation for a sustainable economic future.
Today, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and His Worship Stewart Young, Mayor of Langford, were in Langford to visit the West Shore Parkway project site and see construction progress.
The project is expected to be completed in Fall 2017, and will extend the West Shore Parkway 3.5 kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway to Highway 14 (Sooke Road). The Parkway will include new bike lanes, sidewalks in residential areas, additional streetlights, transit stops, boulevard medians, and upgraded sewer infrastructure.
When fully complete, the project will provide a more direct connection between two major commuting arteries, as well as enhanced safety and efficiency whether walking, cycling or driving.

The estimated total eligible cost of the complete West Shore Parkway extension project is $22,352,570.

The Government of Canada and Government of British Columbia are each contributing up to $7,450,856 to the project through the Small Communities Fund. The City of Langford is responsible for any remaining costs.
