Statement from the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities regarding the Canada Infrastructure Bank
Statement
Ottawa, Ontario, August 22, 2018 — Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, made the following statement on the first project investment by the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I welcome the announcement made today by the Canada Infrastructure Bank and CDPQ Infra on the business agreement regarding the investment in the Réseau express métropolitain project in Montréal.
This project will connect the Montréal region in a way we have never seen before, allowing residents to get to work faster and spend more time with friends and family. It is a prime example of the type of modern, resilient, and green infrastructure that Canadians across our country are looking for.
The Canada Infrastructure Bank was created as an additional tool to help public dollars go further by attracting private sector investment and I am pleased to see that this innovative model has succeeded in bringing together private and public sector partners to realize this important project.”
The Province of Quebec and CDPQ Infra, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, identified the Réseau express métropolitain project for independent consideration by the Canada Infrastructure Bank. This is the inaugural investment by the Bank following its launch in 2017.
