Government of Canada supports 12 infrastructure projects in Labrador

Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, July 26, 2019—Strategic investments in public infrastructure, including funding for water and wastewater infrastructure, and improved roads and highways, play a key role in ensuring Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable infrastructure that meets their needs, while creating good jobs that help grow the middle class.
Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, today announced funding for 12 infrastructure projects in Labrador.
Projects include improving municipal water and wastewater infrastructure across the region, and upgrading local roads. These projects will provide Labrador residents with cleaner water, more efficient wastewater services and safer travel routes for residents and visitors.
The Government of Canada is investing over $6.5 million to these projects through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan.

Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.

$26.9 billion of this funding is supporting green infrastructure projects, including $5 billion available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

$25.3 billion of this funding is supporting social infrastructure in Canadian communities.

More than $10.1 billion of this funding is supporting trade and transportation projects, including $5 billion available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

$2 billion of this funding is supporting infrastructure projects that meet the unique needs of rural and northern communities like facilities to support food security, local access roads and enhanced broadband connectivity.

The Rural Economic Development Strategy leverages ongoing federal investments and provides a vision for the future, identifying practical steps to take in the short term, and serving as a foundation to guide further work.

These investments complement the Atlantic Growth Strategy, a federal-provincial action plan aimed at stimulating economic growth in the region through five priority areas:
- Skilled workforce/Immigration;
- Innovation;
- Clean growth and climate change;
- Trade and investment;
- Infrastructure.
