Montréal, Quebec, June 21, 2022 — Tonight, the Samuel De Champlain Bridge will glow from sunset to 1:00 a.m. in colours significant in Indigenous cultures to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day.  

The colours for this illumination celebrate the heritage, richness, and diversity of the distinct cultures of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This illumination also recognizes that the Samuel De Champlain Bridge is located on the traditional unceded territories of the Haudenosaunee and Mohawk peoples. During its construction, mitigation measures were taken to protect the archaeological heritage site of the former Domaine LeBer estate, built on Île-des-Soeurs in the 1670s. The summer solstice is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the unique experiences, outstanding acontributions, and history of the Indigenous peoples.
