Use of new citizenship promotional products and directive for destruction of all old promotional material

Issue

New citizenship study guide and materials.

Background

As part of the Citizenship Action Plan, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has reviewed the citizenship study guide and materials currently being distributed at citizenship ceremonies. The citizenship ceremony programs folders (including inserts) have been re-written and redesigned to reflect the department’s new visual identity.

Current policy and procedures

Citizenship program folders are only distributed to new Canadians at “special” citizenship ceremonies usually those off-site. The current citizenship ceremony program folders contain a message from the Minister, the national anthem, the oath of citizenship and an insert from Parks Canada. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is also distributed or made available at citizenship ceremonies.

New policy and procedure

The new citizenship ceremony program folders are to be distributed at each and every ceremony and one copy is to be provided to the new citizen or family.

The new ceremony program folders consist of: a message from the Minister; an anthem card with the text of the national anthem in both languages; and a new pamphlet outlining the importance of the Oath of Citizenship, the Queen’s significance in the oath and highlights of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms will no longer be distributed.

Effective immediately, all promotional materials that do not meet the new visual identity must not be distributed or displayed, and where possible, destroyed. This includes all old program folders, including inserts), pop-up banners, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, posters, etc. (see the following examples of outdated materials).

Note: Copies of A look at Canada are no longer to be distributed and must be disposed of.

Please follow the standard ordering procedures to request a supply of the new publications through DistributionServices-servicesdesdistribution@cic.gc.ca
