Modified Temporary Resident Visa Application Form
As a follow-up to Operational Bulletin 241 – New Temporary Resident Visa Application Form – published on October 12, 2010, the purpose of this bulletin is to advise of modifications to the recently launched Application for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada [IMM 5257] form.
On October 14, 2010, a new Application for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada [IMM 5257] form, the corresponding Instruction Guide [IMM 5256], Family Information [IMM 5645] form, Schedule 1 [IMM 5257–Schedule 1] and Document Checklist [IMM 5484] were made available to all applicants. These new forms were intended to eliminate the need for country-specific screening forms. Following the October 14 launch, Citizenship and Immigration Canada sought feedback to ensure the questions posed to applicants were facilitating the processing of applications, while continuing to meet the health and safety priorities of Canada.
Modified Application Form
Effective November 30, 2010, modifications have been made to the Background Information Section of the new Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada [IMM 5257] form. Officers should note that the wording in questions 4 and 5 have been slightly modified, as well as the requirement for the completion of Schedule 1 [IMM 5257–Schedule 1]. The new application form now indicates “If you answered yes to any of questions 3 to 7 above, or upon request of a visa officer, you MAY BE REQUIRED to fill out IMM 5257–Schedule 1.” Officers are encouraged to review the new application form to ensure that they are familiar with all modifications.
While the form has been revised, the web links to the new Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada application form and supporting documents remain the same. Offices must ensure that any previous versions of the IMM 5257 and corresponding Instruction Guide are destroyed.
