Zero Years of Education GCMS Data Issue

Summary

All application processing offices must ensure that the Global Case Management System (GCMS) Client Details screen fields related to the number of years of education and level of education have the correct values entered for all applicants.

Issue

Accurate completion of the GCMS data fields related to the number of years of education and level of education is vital for planning and reporting purposes.

Background

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) systems are reporting a disproportionate level of zero (0) value records in the “# of Years of Education” and “Level of Education” data elements. This creates issues for data stakeholders who use this information for planning or reporting purposes.

All application processing offices must ensure that the GCMS Client Details screen fields “# of Years of Education” and “Level of Education” have the correct values entered for all applicants, even when education is not part of the selection criteria such as family class (FC) cases. This requires accurately completing the number of years of education and level of education fields in the GCMS Client Details screen for every client, whether that information is relevant to the decision or not.

To ensure that the data is entered for all cases, these data fields will become mandatory in GCMS.
