Key Messages
- The Government of Canada is pleased to have welcomed almost 28,000 vulnerable Afghans since Kabul fell in August 2021, and arrivals are continuing at a steady pace.
- Over the past six months, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has optimized charter flights for Afghan clients from Pakistan and Tajikistan, as well as commercial options from multiple locations.
- The Government of Canada is working to support Afghan clients in leaving Afghanistan safely.
- We are engaging with countries in the region and the International Organization for Migration, to support the final steps of processing and organize onward travel to Canada via charter and commercial flights.
- We remain on track to reach our commitment to resettling at least 40,000 Afghans by the end of 2023.
