Key Messages
- Canada’s commitment to resettle at least 40,000 vulnerable Afghans is one of the largest in the world.
- Canada remains steadfast in its commitment to help vulnerable Afghans. Our work continues.
- We are processing applications we have received as quickly as possible and helping those who have arrived to build their new lives in Canada.
- We will be able to provide further updates on our progress in the coming weeks.
- We recognize that many Afghans with a relationship to Canada still remain in Afghanistan and/or countries in the region.
- In addition to these special measures, Afghans may also be eligible for regular immigration programs, including economic and family reunification programs. Afghans who meet the refugee class criteria, may also be referred for the refugee resettlement programs.
Supplementary Information
- Program intake caps are standard in public policies to ensure that we are able to process applications received and welcome successful applicants in Canada.
- A crisis of this magnitude means that there will always be more demand for resettlement to Canada than we are able to provide. We are doing everything we can to help Afghans inside and outside of Afghanistan.
