CIMM – Strategic Immigration Review – October 24, 2023
Key facts and figures
The Strategic Immigration Review was launched in February 2023 as a broad engagement, policy and research exercise. A wide range of stakeholders were consulted, including over 16,000 public responses, six regional roundtables, eight deep-dive sessions on critical themes, and collaboration with over 25 federal partners and provinces, territories, and municipalities.
Key Messages
The purpose of Strategic Immigration Review was to better position Canada’s immigration system for the future by identifying concrete solutions to improve how we execute and deliver on IRCC’s mandate.
We have heard that Canada has a world-class and well-managed immigration system, but that there is more we can do to support strong outcomes for Canada and those who choose to move here.
We will soon release a public report outlining what we heard during these consultations and the concrete measures we will take to get there. These measures are intended to help to create a more welcoming experience for newcomers, to better align immigration with labour market needs, and to support a more comprehensive and coordinated growth plan.
