CIMM – Strategic Immigration Review – October 24, 2023
Key facts and figures
- The Strategic Immigration Review was launched in February 2023 as a broad engagement, policy and research exercise. A wide range of stakeholders were consulted, including over 16,000 public responses, six regional roundtables, eight deep-dive sessions on critical themes, and collaboration with over 25 federal partners and provinces, territories, and municipalities.
Key Messages
- The purpose of Strategic Immigration Review was to better position Canada’s immigration system for the future by identifying concrete solutions to improve how we execute and deliver on IRCC’s mandate.
- We have heard that Canada has a world-class and well-managed immigration system, but that there is more we can do to support strong outcomes for Canada and those who choose to move here.
- We will soon release a public report outlining what we heard during these consultations and the concrete measures we will take to get there. These measures are intended to help to create a more welcoming experience for newcomers, to better align immigration with labour market needs, and to support a more comprehensive and coordinated growth plan.
