The Government of Canada has now welcomed more than 1,400 survivors of Daesh and their family members, including vulnerable Yazidi women and children.
Many survivors of Daesh who came to Canada under a 2017 initiative had some immediate family members who were still in captivity or missing, which delayed family reunifications.
Yazidi families in Canada continued to struggle with being separated from members of their families.
This is why in December 2023 we implemented a new measure to help reunite Yazidis who are already in Canada with members of their family still overseas.
We have reached the application limit for this measure and continue to process existing applications. Families are continuing to be reunited in Canada.
