Simon Cardinal

Over the course of his career, Simon Cardinal has held a variety of corporate, policy and operational roles, both at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Canada Border Services Agency.

As the Director General (DG) of Future of Work, Simon provides effective oversight and strategic direction on IRCC’s Future of Workplace Strategy and hybrid workforce approach. He also oversees IRCC’s Situation Centre, including priority initiatives under its responsibility. This currently includes pandemic responses, as well as coordinating transportation and temporary accommodations for the Ukrainian immigration response.

In his previous capacity, Simon was responsible for the planning, coordination and reporting aspect of IRCC’s efforts in resettling over 40,000 Afghan nationals. He has also previously held the role of Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer, has ensured the operational achievement of IRCC’s Immigration Levels Plan from 2016-2018, and has provided strategic operational advice and data analysis on key departmental files, including Express Entry, Operation Syrian Refugees and Irregular Migration.

Simon has extensive experience in developing partnerships with stakeholders and providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Ottawa.
