Local business recognized for their work with refugees

News Release

March 9, 2016—Calgary, Alberta ‒ Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum today congratulated Cinnaroll Bakeries Ltd. as one of the winners of the 2016 Employer Awards for Refugee Employment for their outstanding efforts to help refugees settle in Canada by finding jobs and obtaining employment skills.

“I am very grateful for the leadership role that Canadian employers have played over many years to support the successful settlement and integration of refugees by hiring refugees, and encouraging their organizations to become more directly involved in the settlement process,” said Minister McCallum.

“We are honoured and humbled by this recognition and the receipt of this award. Our close work with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society has allowed us to introduce new people into our businesses who have demonstrated amazing resilience and willingness to make the effort to grow while learning what becoming a Canadian is all about (including how to handle our winters),” said Graham Dobson, Director of Operations at Cinnaroll Bakeries Ltd.

Winners were announced at the Employer Council of Champions Summit, organized by Hire Immigrants Ottawa, which brought together business, government and civic leaders to engage in a dialogue about the effective integration of refugees and immigrants into the labour force, and to celebrate employer excellence.
