Minister Hussen marks Canada Day

Statement

Ottawa, July 1, 2018 – The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today issued the following statement:

“Today, on Canada’s 151st birthday, people across the country and around the world will gather to celebrate our country’s freedoms and achievements.

“Canada has many strengths and virtues, diverse cultures and glorious landscapes. We are fortunate to live in a country that embraces all people equally, regardless of their ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

“More than 1,900 people will become Canadian citizens on this special day at the 46 citizenship ceremonies taking place across the country.

“Like many of those who will become Canadian today, I also did not grow up in Canada, and know from personal experience what a special moment it is to become Canadian. Our newest Canadians will carry memories of this day with them always.

“On July 1st, I encourage you to reaffirm your citizenship and reflect on who we are as a country and on the freedoms we enjoy.

“Happy Canada Day.”
