IRCC’s Response to Hurricane Dorian

Ottawa, September 10, 2019 – There is some misinformation being circulated on the Government of Canada’s response to Hurricane Dorian.

Canadians remain gravely concerned by Hurricane Dorian and we express our condolences to all those affected by the devastation it caused.

There are no special immigration program measures in effect for individuals affected by Hurricane Dorian. Asylum claims cannot be made at a Canadian embassy, high commission, consulate, consulate general, or honorary consulate.

There are specific requirements to be considered a refugee. Individuals claiming asylum must demonstrate they meet the criteria as defined in the Immigration Refugee Protection Act.
