Notice – Parent and grandparent application intake increases to 10,000
Ottawa, February 26, 2016 — Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has formally increased the number of applications it will take in through its Parent and Grandparent (PGP) Program. Beginning this year, the number of new and complete PGP applications accepted for intake is 10,000, doubling the previous cap of 5,000 applications.
This cap increase reflects the popularity of the PGP Program and the government’s commitment to family reunification as a core immigration priority. Bringing families together supports the integration of immigrants into Canada and contributes to Canada’s social, cultural and economic development.
We received sufficient applications to meet the PGP cap this year. If you submitted an application for this year’s intake period before the 10,000 cap was reached and it was completed according to the application kit requirements, your application will be placed in the inventory. If you submitted an incomplete application or submitted your application after the cap was reached, the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario will return it to you. For returned applications, the fee will be reimbursed.
The PGP Program will re-open for intake next year, starting on January 3, 2017, with a cap of 10,000 new and complete applications. Information will be provided on IRCC’s website prior to the re-opening.
