ARCHIVED – Notice – Passport photo specifications printable tool online

Ottawa, June 23, 2015 – The revised passport photo specifications publication (PDF, 652.38KB) is now available online.

This edition includes two new requirements which will further guarantee the authenticity of the picture and its subject as well as increase the overall security of the Canadian passport. These requirements were introduced on May 9, 2015:

• Photos with tinted eyeglasses are unacceptable.
• Photos are now valid for six months only from the date they were taken.

Use this tool to ensure your passport photos comply with the new and existing requirements set out by the Government of Canada’s Passport Program. If your photos fail to comply with the requirements, your application will be delayed or rejected and returned to you.

Photo specifications differ from one country to another. For example, standard photo formats in other countries vary and may not be acceptable for Canadian passport photos, such as (2 inches × 2 inches format) in the United States.

To avoid any problems, print a copy of the photo specifications for Canadian passports to take with you when you get your passport photo taken.
