Special Measures Extended for Sudanese Nationals in Canada
Ottawa, October 28, 2025—Canada remains deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict in Sudan and committed to protecting vulnerable people affected by the conflict.
Special measures to support Sudanese nationals already in Canada will be extended beyond October 28, 2025. Eligible individuals can continue to apply for new open work or study permits, or to extend their stay or change their temporary status without paying application fees.
These measures were first introduced in April 2023. By extending these measures, Canada is helping Sudanese nationals remain safely in the country, without the added burden of application fees. This underscores Canada’s continued commitment to offering compassionate and practical support to those impacted by global conflict, especially individuals who have already sought safety here.
Canada will continue to stand with the people of Sudan, offering protection and stability through these temporary measures and broader humanitarian efforts.
