Minister Bennett Thanks Former President of the Métis Nation of British Columbia, Bruce Dumont

OTTAWA, ONTARIO (September 20, 2016) – The Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Carolyn Bennett, issued the following statement today:

“It is my honour to thank Mr. Bruce Dumont for his many years of dedicated service as president of the Métis Nation of British Columbia (MNBC) which, under his direction, made significant contributions to the advancement of Métis people in British Columbia.

During his three terms as President of the MNBC, starting in 2005, the organization grew to include 15,000 registered members. Mr. Dumont’s leadership helped the Métis Nation of B.C. to forge strong partnerships and create improved economic development and employment opportunities for Métis citizens.  

Mr. Dumont undertook many other roles and responsibilities, including Minister of Natural Resources for MNBC. He sat on the Métis National Council Board of Governors as Minister for Culture, Heritage and Language, and as Minister for Health and Sport. He also served on committees in the energy sector as a representative on Indigenous interests.  

Mr. Dumont’s hard work and dedication as the longest serving President of the MNBC has been exceptional. He has selflessly served his community and worked tirelessly to forge a better future for the Métis people. I wish him good luck and best wishes on his next adventure.

It is also my pleasure to welcome the new President of the MNBC Clara Morin Dal Col. I am looking forward to working with her as we continue to make progress on Métis issues in BC.
