Government of Canada seeks Vice-Chairperson and Members for Polar Knowledge Canada Board of Directors

October 7, 2016 – Ottawa, ON – Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada
Today, Parliamentary Secretary Yvonne Jones, on behalf of the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, announced that the Government of Canada has launched selection processes for both Vice-Chairperson and Member positions for the Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) Board of Directors. The nine-member Board of Directors is responsible for the organization’s strategic direction, helping advance knowledge of the Canadian Arctic and strengthening Canadian leadership in polar science and technology.
The Government of Canada is looking for applicants with knowledge and experience that will assist POLAR in carrying out its Arctic and Antarctic research mandate, and also reflect the cultural and demographic diversity of Canada’s Arctic. These selection processes are open to all Canadians, and will run until October 28, 2016.
The Government of Canada is committed to Governor in Council selection processes that reflect Canada’s diversity and respect the concept of an open, transparent and merit-based selection process. All interested and qualified Canadians are invited to apply.

- Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) was created by the Canadian High Arctic Research Act and came into force by Order in Council on June 1, 2015.
- POLAR will be headquartered in the Canadian High Arctic Research Station, currently under construction in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. The Station is set to become operational in 2017.
