Government of Canada congratulates Millbrook First Nation for its community development

News Release

October 20, 2017 – Halifax, NS – Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada

The Government of Canada is committed to a renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples; one that makes progress on issues most important to Indigenous communities, like economic development and infrastructure.

Don Rusnak, MP for Thunder Bay—Rainy River, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, today congratulated Millbrook First Nation on the launch of a project to assist the development of a sustainable waste management and diversion program. Millbrook has been allocated more than $300,000 in federal funding in 2017-2018 for the development of sustainable waste management systems.

This program will reduce the amount of waste generated, reduce associated fees, mitigate environmental impacts and develop tools for community administrators to effectively manage solid waste.

Mr. Rusnak also congratulated Millbrook First Nation on the launch of its franchise restaurant. This project, part of the Millbrook Power Centre, will provide significant employment opportunities for community members and increased own source revenues for the community.
