Government of Canada and Treaty 4 sign Letter of Understanding in commitment to education transformation

The Government of Canada and Treaty 4 Education Alliance are pleased to advance their shared commitment to education transformation with the signing of a Letter of Understanding (LOU).
As partners in the treaty relationship, the parties will begin working towards the establishment of a new First Nation education system that will ensure Treaty 4 Education Alliance First Nations children on reserve receive the quality education they need to succeed.
This important initiative supports First Nations-led education transformation and reflects Canada’s commitment to support a quality and culturally relevant First Nations education system, developed and controlled by First Nations.
“This Letter of Understanding marks the path forward in creating a First Nations-led education system for Treaty 4 First Nations students; one that fosters student success in a culturally relevant learning environment. This is part of broader shift to ensure to a future where Indigenous peoples fully exercise the right to self-determination.
