June 23, 2018 - Tobique First Nation, NB - Indigenous Services Canada

The Government of Canada is committed to working in partnership with First Nations to improve community safety and promote economic development in their communities.

Today, TJ Harvey, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactuquac, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, congratulated Tobique First Nation on the reconstruction of two major roads in their community. This project represents a $2.5 million investment by the Government of Canada and is set to be completed by the end of the month.

This project involves the reconstruction of two existing roads in the community. Construction began in October 2016 and included ditching, installation of culverts, and the laying of 1.5 kilometers of new asphalt.

The project took a community-first approach, using existing resources from within the community to enhance the socio-economic benefits for the community. The mentoring and job creation benefits provided valuable work experience and skills development opportunities for Tobique First Nation band members.
